Finglas & Cabra “Better Sleep” Week

A campaign devised by Finglas Cabra Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force aimed at teaching children about the importance of sleep launched.

The  Cabra  “Better Sleep” campaign took place during the week of the 18th to 22nd of January 2016. The campaign was then rolled out in Finglas during the week of the 18th to 22nd of April 2016. Both campaigns took place in primary and secondary schools across Cabra & Finglas. Its aim was to raise awareness among pupils and their parents around the importance of sleep to our physical and psychological well-being.

During the week, children took part in a range of activities to teach them about sleep and ways of sleeping better. They tracked their sleep throughout the week using ‘sleep diaries’, entered a creative competition on the campaign theme of ‘The Sleep Stealers’, and took part in fun ways of learning about sleep.

The campaign also had plenty for parents. Better Finglas hosted workshops on developing a good bedtime routine across primary schools in Finglas. Parents were also encouraged to submit a video documenting changes they have made in the home to improve bedtime routines, with the winner receiving a €200 IKEA voucher.

The feedback from the kids who took part was very positive, and due to the hard work of those involved, getting a good nights sleep was not an issue.
